Filipino should be upheld as a language of unity despite the diversity of languages throughout the archipelago. This is the commitment of Ambagan. It does not just aim to give room to the assimilation of terms that have cultural particularity in the ethnolinguistic group where these are being used. Most than that, Ambagan also aims to widen and stabilize the recognition and preservation of our national culture. On one hand, the boundaries of barangay, municipality, or province disappear to give way to their assimilation and integration into the national consciousness. On the other hand, this comprehensive national consciousness is positive, as it reaches out and has an egalitarian effect on the nation. As explained by Dr. Galileo S. Zafra, “with the entry of terms from the other Philippine languages, there is a better chance that the different Filipino cultures are recognized, and in the process, our Filipino-ness and our nationhood are shaped collectively.”
