The personal essays are interesting and easy reading, more so because they depict the author’s experiences and a reality distinctly Filipino. Each essay succeeds in informing the reader, in persuading, in entertaining, and in giving opinions and reflections. While the author tries to be “objective,” he is also very subjective when he interprets and surmises what happens around him. With an eye for detail, he gives a clear description of the places, events, and characters he encounters.
