Twenty-five years since its enactment in 1995, several provisions in the National Book Development Act of 1995 (RA 8047) have remained as it was. The past 25 years saw innovations and development in the book industry and our stakeholders have noted that the law, RA 8047, should also adapt to its changing landscape. For one, various formats of the book are already available today which was not the case in 1995.
The NBDB had proposed amendments to RA 8047 in the 17th Congress. Likewise, the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP) and Philippine Educational Publishers Association (PEPA) recently recommended a revised definition of the book to conform with present industry trends.
The NBDB invites the industry stakeholders to provide inputs to the proposed definition of the book. The NBDB conducts this public consultation to review further amendments to RA 8047 so as this may be proposed again to the current Congress.
