For the month of August, together with Ice Seguerra, we are reading Allan N. Derain’s novel “Aswanglaut,” (Ateneo University Press, 2021), an ingenious take on the genesis of the aswang.

Allan N. Derain’s novel, which follows a young girl named Luklak who transforms into a buwayang aswang, calls attention to our rich mythology that’s still deeply rooted in our cultural identity even in modern times.
